Texas Asbestos Renovation Checklist

Know what to gather.
Know what to ask.

Build a useful brief before an asbestos assessment or renovation. Choose what you know; “not sure” is a useful answer too.

For Texas homes, rental properties and commercial or public buildings. The checklist keeps building use and the full project scope together when preparing questions for an assessor.

Use the Washington checklist
01 Your project

Include the whole project, even if it involves more than one building or owner.

02 Materials and work areas

Select the materials your project may affect. This does not identify asbestos.

Use what you already know. Do not disturb material, enter an affected area or collect a sample to complete this checklist.

03 Existing records

Keep the actual report to share with your assessor. No upload is needed here.

Before you begin

What changes in Texas?

Texas DSHS distinguishes private residences, public buildings and other facilities. A house involved in a larger renovation or demolition project may have a different context from a single residence. Ask about the complete project before assuming an exemption or a notification deadline.

What the checklist cannot tell you

Appearance and a building’s age cannot confirm asbestos content. Material assessment and the limits of the proposed work need to be reviewed together. If a project changes, ask whether its existing survey still covers the work.
